The IPL auction in Bengaluru for its first scheduled day ended with some interesting picks. There have been many surprises throughout the day with franchises going all out in order to get the best bunch of players, a great IPL season in terms of cricketing action is definitely in the reckoning. It has been an eventful auction majorly due to the introduction of RTMs as the bidding team is uncertain of getting the player despite making the highest bid.
There must be lots of cheerful faces all around India especially for the young uncapped Indian players who are bagging huge bids on the back of their performances in domestic cricket. Some of them have done well in ongoing U19 CWC while others continue to impress the franchises with their consistent run of play. Amongst them is a very known Gujarati face, Krunal Pandya who represented Mumbai Indians for the last couple of years, has again managed to acquire a good bid.
Pandya brothers muster a hefty baggage
Krunal, the elder of the Pandya brothers couldn’t have asked for more after him being retained by the Mumbai Indians at the ongoing IPL auction as he would be eager to join his former franchise to represent the men in blue yet again in an IPL season. Mustering a bid of 8.8 crores (INR), certainly is the highest bid for any uncapped Indian in the history of IPL so far, is a thing to feel proud about. Hardik, who was already retained by the same franchise as their second pick in the Retention Policy event took place earlier this month was already the owner of a mind-boggling 11 crores (INR).
The duo of Pandya brothers has managed to muster a hefty baggage considering a sum of 19.8 crores (INR) as their total IPL fee earnings even before the tournament begins. This is approximately a quarter (24.75%) of the total purse that Mumbai Indians possessed before going into the retention event.
The key player
Pandya brothers have been the heroes to this Mumbai Indians squad as the dynamic duo provides the erect balance that the team is always in need of given their all-round abilities that they bring to the table. Mumbai’s batting prowess is strengthened due to their exploits in the lower middle order. This is the prevailing reason that must have inspired the Ambanis to go for Krunal for such a huge bid despite having Pollard as the other all-rounder in the side.
