The franchises began the overhauling of their squad for the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday. Richard Madley came back to where he belongs as final set of marquee players went under the hammer. In this session, Glenn Maxwell was the most expensive player as Delhi Daredevils went for him in an intense bidding war. Surprisingly, Kings Xi Punjab didn’t use their Right to Match (RTM) card for the explosive T20 player who can win the games single-handedly on his day.

Gautam Gambhir wasn’t retained by Kolkata Knight Riders as once again Delhi, his local franchise went for him which was again a smart buy for them at Rs. 2.8 Crores. He is likely to lead the franchise and they will hope that he brings the midas touch with him to win the maiden title for Daredevils in the upcoming editions.

Another surprising incident unfolded when only Chennai Super Kings bid for Harbhajan Singh who played all the 10 years of IPL for Mumbai Indians. He was sold for his base price at Rs. 2 Crore as his previous team denied using the RTM card for him. Clearly, CSK have replaced R Ashwin with the veteran off-spinner and is surely a good buy for them given his immense experience at the highest level.

CSK uses RTM for Bravo

Dwayne Bravo was another attractive player in the marquee players list and was snapped up by CSK as they used RTm for him. It was not surprising either given his credentials as the death player. MS Dhoni led franchise is surely looking to bring back the core of the side after a break of two years. England Test skipper Joe Root went unsold as he received no bids from any of the franchise.

Kane WIlliamson, New Zealand captain, was back to Sunrisers Hyderabad for a decent amount of Rs 3 Crore as they didn’t require to retain him. As it was hinted by Virender Sehwag earlier before the auctions, Kings XI Punjab bid for Yuvraj Singh and he didn’t receive any bidding beyond his base price of Rs. 2 Crore. SRH didn’t retain him after a lean season last year. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was also a smart buy for SRH who snapped him up for Rs. 2 Crore with KKR deciding to part ways with him.

Here’s the list of Marquee players sold in Set 2:

Harbhajan Singh: CSK 2 Crore

Gautam Gambhir: DD 2.8 Crore
