The Royal Challengers Bangalore have made some very good inclusions to their camp for the IPL 2018. At the IPL 2018 auctions, the RCB think tank have tried their best to beef up their bowling department. Over the past few years, it has been the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting lineup that has been in the news for all the reasons. They had have the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers on their roster who have done the bulk of the scoring work.
Also, they had Chris Gayle for the last few seasons. It was surprising to see Gayle finding no bidders this season. In any case, the woes of the previous editions had been in the bowling department for the RCB camp. And in the auctions, the team management have roped in some very quality bowlers.
There is one very interesting stat coming up here. Royal Challengers Bangalore have roped in the services of Australian pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile, Indian speedster Umesh Yadav, New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, and English all-rounder Chris Woakes, among the lot. Interestingly, these four bowlers were the cause for the major embarrassment that the team RCB had during the previous edition of the Indian Premier League.
IPL 2017, Match 27 – KKR vs RCB
In the match number 27 of IPL 2017, Royal Challengers Bangalore had taken on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. In the match, KKR had put on a modest yet underpar total of 131 on the board. What perspired in the RCB innings was some serious embarrassment. The Bangalore-based franchise ended up bundling out for a mere 49 runs in under 10 overs. Not a single batsman in the RCB lineup could get in to the double digits.
For the Kolkata Knight Riders, the four bowlers who ruled the roost were Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme, and Umesh Yadav.
And now, all these four bowlers have been roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore this year. Well, this does sound like a very sweet revenge taken by the Bangalore franchise. Whether this is mere coincidence or a planned move, that remains on the viewer to ascertain. For now, one can only say that cricket is indeed a very funny game.
