IPL 2018 Auctions to take place on January 27, 28 in Bengaluru
The auction promises to be a bigger affair since the budget of the purse money has been extended from INR 66 crore to INR 80 crore.
The big news about the auctions of the most prestigious and arguably the most popular T20 league of the world is out. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auctions are all set to be held on January 27 and January 28 at Bengaluru. The news was recently confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per the recent reports in TOI, the BCCI expects the 2018 auctions to be the mega auctions.
One of the senior members of the board conceded that the most of the capped cricketers are set to be back in the auction pool. Hence, it will generate a lot of buzz and is set to be a big affair. The reason why Bengaluru has been chosen as the venue for the auctions is purely because of the fact that the previous auctions of the tournament had taken place at the same venue.
Bigger auction on cards
“Since most of the capped players will be back in auction, it will be a mega auction that will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. Since Bengaluru has been hosting all previous auctions, that was the choice of franchises,” a senior BCCI official quoted.
The 2018 IPL auctions is set to see the comeback of the two big teams – Chennai Super Kings and the Royals – back on the IPL roster. The auction promises to be a bigger affair since the budget of the purse money has been extended from INR 66 crore to INR 80 crore. Also, the rules for retaining the players for the tournament were announced recently.
In all, the franchises can retain a maximum of five players. This will include the two players retained (if any) by the usage of the Right to Match (RTM) cards. In the previous auctions, English all-rounder Ben Stokes had made the headlines by being the costliest buy of the season.
