IPL 2018: Australian batsman emerges as top contender for KKR captaincy role
The Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Jacques Kallis confirmed the same recently.
The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League is just a couple of months ago. With the tournament fast approaching, the teams are narrowing down on their playing combinations for the tournament. While most sides are sorted on their captaincy front, the Kolkata Knight Riders look perplexed with regard to their captaincy duties. Reportedly, Chris Lynn is the front runner in the race at the moment.
The Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Jacques Kallis confirmed the same recently. As per the quotes in ABP Live, Kallis remarked that the franchise is yet to narrow down on the captain. However, they do have a few players emerging out as the top contenders. Among the lot, Australian hard hitting batsman Chris Lynn is surfacing as the top match for the role.
Lynn has been in sublime form in the recent times. Also, he was a star performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders last year in the tournament. Up until last year, they were led by Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir led the Knight Riders camp for almost half a decade. At the auctions this year, the KKR let him go and the Delhi Daredevils were happy to rope him in.
“Yes, he is probably one of the candidates but we haven’t yet decided about it. Maybe, we will get to know in the next couple of weeks,” Jacques Kallis quoted.
On KKR’s young lineup
Meanwhile, the KKR bowling lineup boasts of some really big names. They have international stars like Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine in their lineup. Also, they have roped in young stars of the victorious India U19 side. The likes of Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Shivam Mavi are all set for their maiden stint in the IPL.
“We have some very talented youngsters as back-ups. One positive thing about this year’s squad is that we have proper balance for home and away conditions,” Kallis mentioned.
