The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered some hefty blows before the start of their third encounter against the Kings XI Punjab, in IPL 2018. Their home games had to be shifted to Pune, which will now be their new home venue, due to some security issues in Chennai.
Also, their premier batsman Suresh Raina was ruled out of the next two games due to a calf injury. However, CSK displayed an absolutely appreciable competitive fight in chasing a huge total of 198 runs set by the Kings XI batsmen, courtesy some great power hitting by the big Windies player Chris Gayle.
Dhoni’s late flourish not enough to give CSK the win
Kings XI surprised everyone by deciding to open with two explosive openers, Gayle and the in-form KL Rahul, who scored the fastest fifty in the history of the tournament in the opening game. The Windies opener gave a blistering start to his team as he scored 63 runs off 33 balls to announce his arrival for his new IPL franchise. Some useful contributions from the middle order helped them post a fighting total of 197 runs.
In reply to the chase, CSK lost some early wickets that brought some nervy hurdles in the second innings. However, the CSK skipper MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu stitched an important 57-run partnership, to keep their team in the game. Dhoni was seemed to be struggling to find his timing and was also uncomfortable with some pain in his back, that imposed some serious pressure on Rayudu, who then lost his wicket in a run-out dismissal.
Ignoring the massive pain, Dhoni decided to lead the charge and started taking on the opposition bowlers with some powerful shots. Dhoni’s remarkable show ended up being on the losing side, as CSK lost the game by 4 runs. Nonetheless, the veteran Indian wicket-keeper batsman with his splendid knock of 79 runs off 44 balls, proved to the world that he surely still has the ability to finish games single-handedly.
Many of his teammates and other cricketers showered loads of joyful messages in praise of MS Dhoni’s powerful knock. Many famous celebrities from the Bollywood fraternity also posted some great tweets to appreciate the outstanding knock played by the CSK skipper.
