The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have participated in every season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the inception of the tournament back in 2008. However, they haven’t won the league even a single time. Meanwhile, Preity Zinta, who has been associated with the franchise from the opening season has rooted for them on every occasion. However, she has only been greeted with disappointment.
The current season has begun handsomely well for the Kings as they have won five of their first seven games. Chris Gayle, who has been roped in for INR 2 crores, has been exemplary for them thus far and has been a bone in the flesh for oppositions. The 38-year old showered praises on Zinta and mentioned that she deserves to lift the championship.
The optimism of Chris Gayle
“But right now it’s definitely the IPL. KXIP have never won it. Our owner Preity Zinta is so fantastic, so enthusiastic. The way she roots for her players is just amazing and I think she needs to lift the IPL trophy this year.” Gayle was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The Windies have recently qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup next year in England and Wales. Apart from Afghanistan, the managed to roll over every other side with disdain. “Just two things: winning the IPL this year and the World Cup for West Indies next year. I believe West Indies have a big chance of winning the World Cup in 2019,” the Jamaican cricketer added.
Chris Gayle might be at the twilight of his career, but the fire in his belly for succeeding at the highest level hasn’t died down by any stretch of the imagination. After having a lacklustre performance in the qualifiers in Zimbabwe, the hulk-like batsman has rediscovered himself in the IPL and is expected to play some more game-changing knocks for the team at the top of the order.
