IPL 2018: CSK sign Kedar Jadhav's replacement
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were dealt with a severe blow when Kedar Jadhav was ruled out of the tournament on Monday. He was the key player for them in the middle order and had won them the cliffhanger against the Mumbai Indians on the opening night of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He sustained a grade 2 hamstring injury while batting in the match and will eventually sit out now. However, CSK have now signed yet another England player in David Willey as his replacement.
Earlier, there were reports that the franchise has approached the left-arm pacer. There were also speculations that hi County side Yorkshire will not allow the cricketer to play in the IPL as the season is about to start in England as well and they were already handicapped with the absence of Liam Plunkett who was signed by Delhi Daredevils as a replacement for Kagiso Rabada.
Yorkshire confirmed the news
The news of David Willey agreeing to sign the contract with Chennai Super Kings was confirmed by the official website of Yorkshire itself. The Director of Cricket of the club was disappointed after losing yet another key player ahead of the crucial County season.
“We find ourselves in an impossible situation with these late replacement requests. At the moment, we are potentially looking at a situation where if we deny a player an opportunity, we will be left with someone who is not completely focused on playing for Yorkshire. This would be counter-productive,” he said.
Meanwhile, Willey has left the left the Fischer Ground on Monday morning during Yorkshire’s two-day friendly match against Leicestershire to finalise the terms and conditions with Chennai. It will be his debut in the Indian T20 extravaganza and might be drafted into the playing XI straight away as soon as he joins the team. For now, though it seems impossible that he will take part in CSK’s second game against KKR on Tuesday at which will take place at Chepauk Stadium.
