4. KKR committing another last over bowling blunder by using Piyush Chawla
KKR’s woeful tryst with the last over bowling decisions continued in their second match against the Mumbai Indians, and this time it came in their own backyard, the Eden Gardens. The unstoppable Ishan Kishan piled on 62 runs off just 21 balls that helped MI put up the highest ever IPL total to be recorded at the venue (210 runs). The Rohit Sharma-led outfit had been poised at 188 at the end of the 19th over and KKR would’ve hoped to restrict them within 200 in the final over, but this time it was the wrong decision of bowling Piyush Chawla that cost them.
KKR didn’t have too many choices to bowl the last over with since all their bowlers had taken a severe beating at the hands of the MI batting line-up. The final over from Chawla saw Ben Cutting and Krunal Pandya go berserk as they smashed 22 runs off Chawla’s bowling, aided by three sixes and a boundary. Chawla was able to dismiss Cutting on the penultimate delivery of the innings but it wan’t enough to stem the carnage that Cutting had already inflicted.
