3. Mumbai Indians’ over-dependence on Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is no doubt an instrumental cog in the Mumbai Indians machinery. However, over-dependence on a single batsman turns out to be fatal for any team and the same can be said about MI’s recent campaigns barring the last one. MI has had a lacklustre IPL campaign this time around with just 3 wins out of 9 matches.
MI’s match against the RCB, in particular, exposed Mumbai’s batting in the backdrop of Sharma’s failure to score a single run. Coupled with RCB’s surprisingly strong death bowling from Md. Siraj and Tim Southee that they might have underestimated given the previous inefficiency of the Virat Kohli-led side’s final over bowling, Mumbai were unable to battle their way to victory.
