5. KXIP’s middle-order woes
An IPL team containing the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh and Karun Nair is expected and justified to depend heavily on their batting abilities. However, that didn’t happen for KXIP in Friday’s match against the Mumbai Indians. In spite of a good start from Gayle (50) and Rahul (24), KXIP middle-order were unable to convert it into something substantial. A run-a-ball inning from Singh slowed down the innings considerably.
As a result, the quickfire innings from Marcus Stoinis worth 29 runs off 15 balls came in too late to get KXIP to a defendable total. In reply to the target of 175 runs, Suryakumar Yadav (57) put up a stiff resistance from the Mumbai Indians side and KXIP’s inability to devise a solution for his feisty batting left them reeling at the end of the match as MI won the match by 6 wickets.
