Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja seems to be falling off the radar in the recent times. The left arm spinner lost his position in the national side in the limited overs cricket. And now, in the Chennai Super Kings setup in the IPL, he is hardly getting any chances to bowl. If this continues, he will run out of numbers to show in his favor in the times to come.

Amidst this situation, some former cricketers have tried to decipher why MS Dhoni is not giving too many overs to Ravindra Jadeja. Former Indian spinner Maninder Singh believes that Jadeja is perhaps carrying some injuries, due to which Dhoni is reluctant to hand him the ball. However, he is stunned to see Dhoni not turning to Jadeja despite the fact that the CSK team has been leaking runs this season.

“It is a mystery as to why Jadeja is not bowling. I feel he must be carrying some injuries. If not he should be bowling fearlessly. Anyway CSK have been giving away too many runs. So I don’t understand why Dhoni is not using him. The bottom-line is he needs to bowl if he harbours any hopes of making a national return,” Maninder Singh quoted as per the quotes in Times of India.

Too many options?

On the other hand, former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar feels that the CSK camp boasts of a lot of bowlers. Dhoni has so many options at his disposal at the moment and hence, the need to bowl the left arm spinner has not really struck him yet in the competition. But hopefully, Jadeja will get his due share of overs when the need arises.

“I feel Jadeja didn’t bowl because Dhoni had plenty of options at his disposal. However, it is clear that Dhoni has other plans for him and sees him as a finisher. Jadeja has the skills to do it. He now has to figure it out how he wants to go about the job. The earlier he realises that, the better it would be for the team,” Hrishikesh Kanitkar reckoned.

Dhoni still has faith in Jadeja

Meanwhile, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni, had recently stressed that the team has a lot of faith in Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni’s words for Jadeja had come after the latter had hit the winning six in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the match, Jadeja was promoted ahead of Dwayne Bravo, and many reckoned this was a wrong move. Defending the decision, Dhoni remarked that the team wants to give all the due chances to the Saurashtra lad.

“We have confidence in Jadeja. This is also the right time to give him that opportunity. If he cannot do (it), Bravo can always step up. But if Jadeja can come good, it will be really good. (Suresh) Raina is another left-hander at the top and if we can have Jadeja who can do the job as a floater, the opposition will find it difficult to plan their bowling. So far we have never really given Jadeja the kind of opportunity he deserves. So I will definitely back him to come good in the future games,” Dhoni has quoted after the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
