IPL 2018: Fuming Virat Kohli questions third umpire over overruled Southee catch
Kohli was seemingly upset that Tim Southee's catch had been given as runs.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore needed a win to stay in the tournament, and they got a hard-fought one against the Sunrisers. It was AB de Villiers who became the man of the moment along with Moeen Ali who played a superb inning, helping the side post a huge total. However, during the run chase, When Kane Williamson combined with Manish Pandey for a superb 135-run stand, things would’ve looked troublesome for the RCB skipper Virat Kohli. The team kept their cool in the end and won the game by 14 runs.
The match saw some spectacular fielding efforts from both the sides. During the RCB innings, Shikhar Dhawan had taken a superb one-legged catch to dismiss the big fish AB de Villiers who if had managed to stay for few more overs, the total could’ve been even bigger.
Then we saw Rashid Khan take a blinder at the boundary after he made a misjudgment as he came ahead but managed to hold on the tough chance. However, it was AB de Villiers who ran away with the best catch of the match moment when he leapt high in the air, like Superman to pluck one which dismissed Alex Hales.
Virat Kohli vents his anger on the decision
Notably, during the third over of the innings of the Sunrisers, Tim Southee had taken a superb low catch running forward. The umpires decided to go upstairs to check If the ball had carried without a bump, giving the soft signal as out. However, the third umpire after checking few angles overruled the decision as not out. Commentators on the air couldn’t believe that the decision was given in favour of the batter.
The surprised RCB Virat Kohli skipper was seen discussing the same with the on-field umpires. Southee who claimed the catch instantly too was surprised by the decision.
The decision would’ve come to bite the RCB had Hales managed to win the game for the Sunrisers. Eventually, they fell short even after brilliant half-centuries from skipper Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey. Notably, the umpiring in the 11th edition of the tournament has seen few horrendous calls from the on-field umpires as well.
