IPL 2018: Gautam Gambhir kicks of tournament with a heartfelt message
Gautam Gambhir played for the Delhi Daredevils from 2008 to 2010
The eleventh season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway with eight teams fighting it out to claim the championship. The tournament has been a witness to ten riveting seasons. While Mumbai Indians (MI) have won the event as many as three times, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have bagged the title a couple of times each.
Meanwhile, there have been teams who haven’t yet won the event ever since the inception of the tournament, Delhi Daredevils is one of them. Despite boasting of some prominent names, the franchise has throughout been inconsistent. However, they currently have Gautam Gambhir as their skipper, who has won the Knight Riders a couple of trophies.
The Knights franchise refrained from bidding for their skipper after which he was bagged by the Daredevils. Gambhir played three seasons for the Delhi franchise after which he moved to the Knights and gradually became an indispensable member of the team. He captained the team with authority and scored heaps of runs, which helped the Knights emerge as a brute force.
The cricketer would now wish to turn Delhi’s fortunes around and replicate his performances during his stint with the Knights. The left-handed batsman recently took to Twitter and shared a heartwarming message of all the participating teams in the league.
“Here’s wishing everyone a very happy @IPL from me and my team @DelhiDaredevils, may the best team win @BCCI #DilDilli #ipl”
Here is the Tweet
Meanwhile, Delhi has been jolted with a massive blow as Kagiso Rabada, the South African pacer, due to an injury he suffered during the Test series against Australia. Nevertheless, the franchise has recently announced Liam Plunkett as their replacement. The Daredevils will play their opening game against the Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
