The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has already been a witness to 21 riveting encounters. While most teams are breathing down the shoulders of each other in a bid to qualify for the playoffs, Delhi Daredevils (DD) is one opponent who is yet to make a mark in the tournament. In five games, they have only managed a solitary victory, which sparks as a disappointment for them.
The franchise tantalizingly edged Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium courtesy of Jason Roy’s herculean knock to chase down a mammoth score. Apart from that, they have been thrashed black and blue and as a result, they are languishing at the bottom of the table. They played their last against the Royal Challengers Bangalore where AB de Villiers took them down single-handedly.
Change in fortunes for Delhi Daredevils?
Meanwhile, they would be playing their opening game today at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. The team would also be hoping for changes in fortunes having returned to their home venue. The Gautam Gambhir-led franchise will be pitted against the Kings XI Punjab who have been in bludgeoning form having won four out of their five matches in the tournament.
Delhi’s bowling has been a tad disappointing in the previous matches. Against the likes of in-form batsmen like Christopher Henry Gayle and KL Rahul, they have to bring forth their A-game, otherwise, they would be in for another drubbing. Prior to the game, Glenn Maxwell has expressed his eagerness on Twitter to play their maiden game at the Kotla while thanking the fans to be patient. Here wrote
“Looking forward to our 1st home game of the tournament! Our @DelhiDaredevils fans have been very patient and hopefully, we can repay them with a quality performance tonight at the Kotla”
