South African batsman AB de Villiers set the Chinnaswamy Stadium ablaze with some tremendous batting, something that many certainly did not see coming. Especially, given the fact that the 34-year old had been quite badly out of form, it was certainly a surprise when he slammed a 39-ball 90 and remained unbeaten whilst guiding the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a resounding win over Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi Daredevils.
With this positive result, the Challengers now begin their ascent towards the zenith of the Indian Premier League table, something that they had been touted to do since the beginning of their IPL campaign. However, despite all of this, it would certainly seem as though the Challengers are not favorites anymore, but will not have the pleasure of beginning their season and stringing up a bevy of victories under their belt.
Making a host of changes, Virat Kohli and his band of merry men took to the field and won the all-important toss. Corey Anderson, AB de Villiers, Chris Woakes and Quinton de Kock were the overseas players on the day. There also seemed to be a spring in their step in the grand scheme of things when they began fielding and bowling a lot better than they usually do. Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj hit the stumps from throws on several occasions albeit without avail.
Harbhajan Singh, now with the Chennai Super Kings was seemingly glued to his television set when AB de Villiers decided to ramp up the RCB innings with some big hitting. In fact, it was such an impactful knock that the off-spinner took to Twitter to exclaim his surprise and jubilation at what had transpired in Bengaluru.
Here is the tweet
Mr 360 Degree @ABdeVilliers17 One and only word for you (FREAK) absolutely beauty ?????@RCBTweets vs @DelhiDaredevils @IPL
