IPL 2018: Harbhajan Singh unaware of why Dhoni shaved his head after the 2011 CWC
Harbhajan also termed Dhoni as India's greatest ODI player.
Veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh had to swap for Chennai Super Kings after 10 glorious and productive seasons for the Mumbai Indians. It must’ve been a difficult choice to make for him, but there was no other alternative. But one thing we get with Harbhajan is a 100% effort, something which we’ve seen this time as well.
Promoting his new show Bhajji blast, Harbhajan spoke at length about a lot of interesting facets. He talked about his Mumbai Indians and CSK colleague Ambati Rayudu, who has had a terrific season this time. He said that Rayudu is an introvert and he has been like that for a long time now.
“He’s an introvert. He doesn’t mingle with people too much. When I was with MI, I hardly saw him outside the ground. Can you believe it that he doesn’t even have a phone! There’s a Hindi film dialogue na: Don ko dhundna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin hai (it’s not just difficult, but impossible to find Don). The same applies to Rayudu!,”
Dhoni didn’t go to a barber that night: Harbhajan
He also revealed an interesting detail that Dhoni didn’t go to a barber to shave his head after the World Cup final in 2011. After helping his side win the coveted trophy with a 79-ball 91, Dhoni was spotted with a shaved head the next morning whilst posing with the World Cup trophy.
“The night when we were celebrating our World Cup triumph in 2011, MS Dhoni suddenly went to his room and came back like ‘shakaal’ (a popular villainous character from the movie Shaan). He didn’t go to any barber to shave off his head. I still don’t know why he did it.”
Bhajji also rated Dhoni as India’s best ODI player and termed him a legend of Indian cricket. He said that the criticism against Dhoni is a perpetual facet and despite all of that, he’s a world-class player.
“The World Cup is still very far. This (the IPL) is a different tournament and format. People will continue to question Dhoni. You can’t stop them, but Dhoni’s still a class, world champion player. He’s been India’s best ODI player. We don’t need to talk about his performances, let his bat do that. He’s a legend of Indian cricket,” praises Harbhajan.
Talking about his move from Mumbai Indians to Chennai, he felt it was a bit awkward and he had mixed feelings when he went to play at the Wankhede this season.
“It was a mixed feeling. I was like, ‘What am I doing in the (rival) dressing room. And my (jersey) colour is suddenly yellow. This is different.’ When that game got over, I was like ‘Thank God, it was the first match!. After that, it’s been a great journey, coming from one great team to another. Luckily, things didn’t change too much. I was playing in the IPL final there (with MI), and now here too!” Bhajji said.
