IPL 2018: Here is what Rohit Sharma has to say about the new look MI bowling camp
"Of course, we are going to miss Harbhajan Singh," Rohit quoted.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians are all set for the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. They will be taking on the Chennai Super Kings in the season opener this year. Ahead of the tournament, the MI skipper Rohit Sharma has oozed confidence. Rohit, who had lifted three IPL titles for the MI camp, is positive about a good show this year. He made it clear that his aim is to win the tournament again.
As per the quotes on the official website of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma spoke at length about the bowling combinations. The batting has never been a concern with Rohit being the anchor himself. In the bowling lineup, the team has a revamped setup this year. They don’t have the services of Lasith Malinga and Mitchell Johnson this year. They have added players like Pat Cummins and Mustafizur Rahman in their side.
Commenting on the same, Rohit noted that the attack is a very versatile one. He noted that Cummins had serious pace in his armoury, while Mustafizur is someone who will use a lot of variations.
“I think it’s a versatile attack. We’ve got pace, we’ve got spin, and we’ve got variation. Like I said, I am excited about this squad, especially the bowling unit. These are very talented players. Pat Cummins, who is now playing for the Australian Test team in South Africa, has done really well for his country. He has very good pace,” Rohit Sharma quoted.
“Mustafizur Rahman, as we have seen in the recent past, has got great variations. He is someone who can be very unpredictable at times, and that’s what we want to be as a team. Mustafizur brings that unpredictability quotient to the table. I am looking forward to playing with him,” Rohit added.
‘Will miss Harbhajan’
Another big name who will be missing from the MI camp is Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan will be playing for CSK this year. Rohit Sharma noted that the team has other proven performers like the Pandya brothers and Jasprit Bumrah. However, he admitted that the void left by Harbhajan will be a difficult one to fill. Having said that, Rohit is optimistic about the youngsters coming up and taking the responsibility.
“Also, we have a few good spinners in our squad as well. We have proven performers like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, but we have some new spinners in the mix. Of course, we are going to miss Harbhajan Singh. The experience he brought to this team was immense,” the Mumbai skipper conceded.
“To fill his shoes will require a lot of work for anyone who comes in. So, I am sure all these young guys are waiting for that opportunity to wear the MI colours and go out on the field and create (the magic) what we have created in the past. It will be a great season,” he added further.
