The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have one of the most loyal fan-bases in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise has tasted a significant amount of success ever since the inception of the tournament and has arguably been a force to reckon with in the T20 league. MS Dhoni is the leader of the pack from the opening season, which is one of the primary reasons why they conjure roars from the supporters.
However, fate had something gruesome in store as they had to face a two-year suspension following the involvement of team officials in the betting and match-fixing scandal of 2013. The team recently made their comeback in the mega event and stamped their authority in the opening game itself against the Mumbai Indians. Nevertheless, the curse of the Cauvery Water Dispute (CWD) encircled the city.
The jaw-dropping support for the Super Kings
Subsequently, several political parties asked for the home games of the CSK to be shifted out of the city. Some of them even threatened to the extent of halting the games at the venue itself. Despite the chaos, the game between Chennai and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was staged. Nevertheless, the venue for the remaining games has finally been shifted to Pune.
Meanwhile, the excitement among the fans didn’t die down one bit and as many as 1000 fans would now be travelling to Pune to witness CSK’s game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Maharashtra Association Stadium in Pune. The franchise has booked an entire train by the name of Whistlepodu Express for them. The fans would also get tickets along with free accommodation and food.
Following the love and support shown by the fans, Imran Tahir, the South African leg-spinner, heaped praises on the ardent followers. Subsequently, he took to Twitter and shared a message in Tamil. Here is a translation of the same.
“Check these dudes out, this group is composed of love and passion. They would have come and watched the team play had the match taken place in the desert, leave alone Pune. Hats off the love and support. Whistle Podu;”
