A lot of eyebrows were raised after Ishan Kishan was bagged by Mumbai Indians (MI) for a whopping amount of Rs 6.2 Crore in the auction earlier this year. But the youngster proved his worth on Wednesday when he just tore apart the bowling attack of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in front of their home crowd. He was delighted after playing a match-winning knock for his win and credited Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni’s influence in his career so far.

Ishan was the skipper of India U19 team in World Cup in 2016 when the Boys in Blue made it to the finals of the mega event. Rishabh Pant was also in the same team and has made the headlines more often than not for his belligerent batting. He even played for India in the shortest format of the game, but Ishan was unlucky in that aspect. Though he has risen to the occasion now and is scaling new heights in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Rohit and Dhoni backed me

Ishan Kishan, while speaking in the post-match press conference, opened up on how Rohit Sharma has backed him this season despite enduring a few failures. “It’s always good if a youngster gets to bat up in the order, and if your franchise and skipper backs you,” he said. He also went on to credit MS Dhoni for his guidance whenever he meets him. Even recently, after the game between MI and CSK, the veteran was seen talking to the left-hander and sharing his experience which would’ve helped him a lot.

“I think he helps me a lot. Whenever I meet him, I get a lot of tips from him. He is a legend. He tells me how I can take time and access the situation. I feel confident when they talk to me. Dhoni-bhaiya and Rohit-bhaiya back me. They say ‘you have played a very good knock’ and just back yourself,” he added.
