Kings XI Punjab has witnessed loads of significant turns and one of the most intruding phases in their ten years of eventful journey in the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Indian Premier League (IPL)</a>. They started their maiden campaign of the tournament under the leadership of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">India&#8217;s</a> most iconic and stylish performers of all in the shortest format of the game, Yuvraj Singh, who was pretty excited to lead the banter for his hometown franchise in one of the most thrilling sporting contests of all. However, the franchise is yet to witness a successful run to lift the coveted IPL title of the competition. Their finest outings came in the 2014 edition of the tournament, where they reached the finals after a staggering run in the league stages of the season, but lost the final game to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Like the rest of franchises of the league, Kings XI have also backed certain set of specialist players in the shortest format, in whom they can invest for long-term prospects. While many of the greatest names of the game have also played a symbolic role in the betterment of the franchise. They maintained its high energetic intensity at the 2018 IPL auctions as well, where the owners and the support staff picked out a balanced and flexible unit for the upcoming season. But they are also yet to tick a major box in their tally, of choosing out a wise and trustworthy leader to captain the side in the eleventh edition of the tournament.

The Kings XI named Yuvraj Singh as their icon player and skipper of the side for the inaugural edition while former Australian cricketer Tom Moody was appointed as the head coach. They did not have the best of the starts in the competition as they lost both of their first two games by heavy margins. However, they came back in a resounding style to register consecutive wins in the next five game of the season. Many of the overseas cricketers from across the globe emerged as the top performers for the Kings in the inaugural edition.

Stylish Australian batsman Shaun Marsh was the highest run-getter of the tournament and the topmost performer for the Kings, as he compiled 616 runs in 11 matches, for which he was also awarded the first of the coveted Orange Cap. Fast bowler Sreesanth was also pretty much impressed with the ball as he picked up 19 wickets. They finished on the third spot in the inaugural edition of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a>, which was a result of a defiant contribution from the whole unit.

In the second season of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a>, Punjab team players failed to produce a consistent at any of stages of the tournament, which was held for the only time in the Proteas nation. They had a quite eventful phase as they kept on losing a couple of games and then also won a couple of games, which was their story in that edition. They failed to maintain the conquering momentum which they gained in the previous year, as they suffered some heavy losses to the better opposition.

They finished fifth on the points tally, with a total of 14 points to its name. Skipper Yuvraj was the star performer with the bat, as he aggregated 340 runs in the season. While left-arm fast bowler Irfan Pathan picked up 17 wickets at an impressive economy.

After having an equivalent run in the previous edition, the franchise opted to appoint an overseas skipper in Sri Lankan cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara, in a quest to get better results in the third edition. Rather than some improvement, they seemed to have to dig a big hole, which they failed to fill in the entire season of the tournament. They witnessed one of the most dismal runs in any type of competition as the Kings were only able to win four out of the 14 games they played in the season.

The ordinary show by the side was also a result of the consistent failures of the experienced players of the team. Former Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene was the star performer as he scored 472 runs, while Irfan Pathan once again finished as the highest wicket-taker for his franchise by claiming 15 wickets in the season. Punjab finished last on the list due to the horrid effort.

Punjab once again appointed a foreign cricketer, in Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist as their captain to change their fortunes after a depressing run in the previous season of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a>. The Aussie skipper gained the winning formula after having started the season on a losing note. Domestic Indian batsman Paul Valthaty delivered a couple of match-winning knock to lead his team to the victory. But they failed to continue to initiate the winning results in the second half of the tournament, which invited the downfall.

Aussie batsman Shaun Marsh was again the best contributor with the bat, as he scored an impressive tally of 504 runs at a staggering rate. Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla did well with the ball as he picked up 16 wickets in the fourth edition of the IPL for Punjab. They finished on the fifth position on the points table.

They continued with Gilchrist as the captain for another year, as the Aussie proved to be a quite dependable and worth appointment of the huge job in the previous edition. They again started the season with a couple of losses and then bounced back with two consecutive victories. The process followed by them in starting stages continued with them as well with them in the rest of the games where they failed to register consistent victories.

Young Indian batsman Mandeep Singh was highest run-getter with 432 runs in the edition to lead the banter for his franchise. Piyush Chawla was once the best performer for the Kings with 16 wickets to his name in the fifth edition. In this edition, nine teams took part in the competition, but the Punjab franchise once again failed to reach the knockout stages and finished on the sixth spot on the points table.

It was a third consecutive season for Gilchrist to be leading the Punjab franchise in the global tournament, with the side persisting with the Aussie aiming for glory in the sixth edition. But the Aussie wicket-keeper once again failed to lead his <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a> side to one of defiant campaigns, which now looked like a possible dreaming fact for them in the tournament. The experienced players once again failed to come at the party, while the other players also could not deliver consistent performances.

In the end stages of the edition, the skipper announced his retirement from the IPL, which would be coming into play after the end of this season. . The team even failed to provide a win abiding farewell to their skipper, as they finished sixth on the list.. Explosive and promising batsman from South Africa, David Miller finished the season on a high with 418 runs to his name, while former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood claimed 15 wickets as his best performance in the league.

After the departure of Gilchrist, Kings appointed another Australian cricketer George Bailey as their captain for the seventh edition. They also brought in veteran Indian opener Virender Sehwag to add some firepower and experience to their team at the top. But their fortunes received a successful shift by some spectacular and stunning performances by Aussie big-hitter Glenn Maxwell who scored 552 runs in his maiden season with Punjab in the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/">IPL</a>. It looked like the most balanced units in the season with Sehwag, Maxwell leading the banter from the top and then skipper Bailey and Miller providing the finishing touches.

The storming striking took them towards the final two participants in this tournament for the first time. But they failed to lift the title, as they lost the final match against Kolkata Knight Riders and finished at the runner-up position. Maxwell was the topmost performer for his franchise leading the charge with bat from the top. While right-arm quickie Sandeep Sharma also impresses everyone as the paceman rattled 18 victims in the season.

The Kings XI team management decided to persist with Bailey as their skipper for the eighth edition, after a staggering run in the previous edition of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a>. But all the spectators and millions of fans of the franchise were left in a quite perplexing situation, looking at an absolutely clueless performance from the Kings. The same bunch of players who were going through the peak stages of their career in the previous year failed terribly and that brought the negativity and losing spirit into the dressing room.

For the second time in eight years, they finished on the last position on the points tally, which was surely an intruding feeling for each and every single member who was part of the Punjab franchise. Amidst the dismal run, Miller was once again emerged to be the best batsman in the camp with 359 runs to his name. Right-arm fast bowler Anureet Singh led the bowling attack by picking up 15 wickets in the season.

After an unsuccessful stint in the previous edition, Punjab once again invested its hopes in a new overseas skipper in, David Miller, who could be providing the desired shift from the shattered results in the past. But the Proteas big-hitting batsman failed big time to live up to the expectation on the captaincy parameters and more importantly suffered a major dip in his form after which he couldn&#8217;t find his feet in the entire season. The team management then decided to appoint Indian opener Murali Vijay as the captain in the second half of the competition.

The damaging job had already been done till then, as Punjab once again finished at the bottom stand on the table. The major area of concern in the losing campaign looked to be the lacking of some experienced and most probably they seem to have been missing a skipper who could have led them with consistent performances. However, still their skipper Vijay finished as the highest run scorer for his franchise with a total of 453 runs in his kitty in the season. While Sandeep once again impressed with the ball as he claimed 15 wickets.

Kings XI suffered a significant blow even before the start of the tenth edition of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/category/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL</a> in the injury to its skipper Murali Vijay who was thus ruled out of the tournament. In the outcome of that incident, Aussie explosive striker Glenn Maxwell was appointed the skipper of the side for the season. However, this move by the management proved to be working wonders for the franchise as Maxwell continued his dazzling stroke-playing in his usual fashion, which guided past the finishing line successfully in the first half of the tournament.

Proteas legendary batsman also joined the party along with his skipper with a couple of magnificent centuries at the top. But their performance slipped to a certain level in the middle-stages of the league, which landed them in a tough position in which they had to win each of the last games to fix their berth into the playoffs. They failed to win the last league game of the season, which resulted in them to once again finish fifth on the teams tally. Hashim Amla was the best scorer with the bat for the Kings as he scored 420 runs and Sandeep led the charge with the ball one more time by picking up 17 wickets.
