After having an equivalent run in the previous edition, the franchise opted to appoint an overseas skipper in Sri Lankan cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara, in a quest to get better results in the third edition. Rather than some improvement, they seemed to have to dig a big hole, which they failed to fill in the entire season of the tournament. They witnessed one of the most dismal runs in any type of competition as the Kings were only able to win four out of the 14 games they played in the season.

Matches Played – 14, W – 4, L – 10

Squad: Kumar Sangakkara (Captain/Keeper), Yuvraj Singh,Yusuf Abdulla, Rusty Theron, Tanmay Srivastava, Sreesanth, Shalabh Srivastava, Reetinder Sodhi, Ramesh Powar, Irfan Pathan, Shaun Marsh, Vikramjeet Malik, Brett Lee, Mohammad Kaif, Mahela Jayawardene, James Hopes, Karan Goel, Piyush Chawla, Ravi Bopara, Manvinder Bisla, Bipul Sharma, Adrian Barath, Amanpreet Singh, Love Ablish.

TOP PERFORMER (Mahela Jayawardene)

The ordinary show by the side was also a result of the consistent failures of the experienced players of the team. Former Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene was the star performer as he scored 472 runs, while Irfan Pathan once again finished as the highest wicket-taker for his franchise by claiming 15 wickets in the season. Punjab finished last on the list due to the horrid effort.
