They continued with Gilchrist as the captain for another year, as the Aussie proved to be a quite dependable and worth appointment of the huge job in the previous edition. They again started the season with a couple of losses and then bounced back with two consecutive victories. Young Indian batsman Mandeep Singh was highest run-getter with 432 runs in the edition to lead the banter for his franchise. Piyush Chawla was once the best performer for the Kings with 16 wickets to his name in the fifth edition. In this edition, nine teams took part in the competition, but the Punjab franchise once again failed to reach the knockout stages and finished on the sixth spot on the points table.
