The Rajasthan Royals suffered a very crucial defeat at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent IPL game. With the defeat, the Royals have put their chances of qualifying for the playoffs in a jeopardy. In the match, they were blown away by Sunil Narine’s blitz in the very first over of the run chase. Narine hammered K Gowtham for 21 runs to put the visitors on the backfoot.
While Narine’s blitz did not last for more than 7 deliveries, the likes of Chris Lynn and Dinesh Karthik ensured that the Kolkata Knight Riders crossed the target of 142 with relative ease. Well, all is set and done as far as the game is concerned. But there was a moment in the game that is now doing the rounds on the social media.
The Rajasthan Royals all-rounder, K Gowtham, looked absolutely furious after the dismissal of Sunil Narine. His anger is pretty much understood. In the season, Gowtham has been bowling exceptionally well with the new ball in the powerplays. However, in this particular game, he was hammered for a 6, 4, 6, 4 in the very first over by Narine.
Narine milked 21 runs of the first over bowled by Gowtham and that certainly did not please the Karnataka all-rounder. This was the fifth highest opening over in the history of the tournament. However, K Gowtham had the last laugh in the player battle. In the very next over, which was bowled by Ben Stokes, Narine ended up getting a thick top edge on his bat.
The ball went high in to the night sky and Gowtham, who was placed in the covers, ran in to claim the catch. He pocketed the catch and threw the ball in disgust with some expletives coming from him as well. It will be interesting to see if he gets away with his animated celebration or whether the officials deem him guilty of a breach of conduct.
Here is how K Gowtham reacted after taking Narine’s catch:
