IPL 2018: Kane Williamson reveals how SRH's plans to contain Rayudu faltered
Ambati Rayudu scored his maiden century in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MCA Stadium in Pune. They have already qualified for the playoffs following their thumping victory over the Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. However, the franchise strained against MS Dhoni’s men and were beaten black and blue by eight wickets.
Ambati Rayudu scored his maiden ton in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which turned out to be too hot to handle for the Sunrisers. The Orange Army is deemed to possess a deadly bowling attack, but the Chennai batsmen managed to make a mockery of their in-form bowlers and traced down the target of 179 with an over to spare.
The defeat also broke their six-match winning streak. Nevertheless, Kane Williamson, the SRH skipper spoke about the positive outcomes from the encounter. Meanwhile, he also spoke about the plans they had in store for Rayudu, which eventually didn’t work out.
“None of them worked”- Williamson on Ambati Rayudu
“Chennai certainly outplayed us today. There were a lot of positives to take to our next game, but it is important that we move on quickly. I think everybody set plans to Rayudu, none of them worked, so we might have to try and think of a few more things when we come up against Chennai again,” Williamson was quoted as saying in India Today.
Ambati Rayudu is currently third on the list of the leading run-scorers in this season’s IPL. With Chennai having also qualified for the playoffs, it won’t be surprising if he ends up as the leading run-scorer, bearing in mind his rich vein of form for the franchise. The New Zealand-cricketer also heaped praises on the opener for his superlative exhibition of batting.
“He seems to be doing it every day. The way he goes about his business hitting the ball fairly conventional areas and hitting it hard as well, it was a great knock to watch, (even) if you are in the opposition team. It was a superb knock and certainly saw his team home in chasing what should have been a tough total to chase,” he added.
