The IPL 2018 auctions bagged a lot of headlines this year for a number of reasons. Most franchises, at the end of it, looked content with the players they roped in on the roster. As an outsider though, one might think that the only franchise that missed out the trick was the Kolkata Knight Riders. With all due respect to the two time champions, they do have a lot of firepower in their squad.
But when compared to the other teams, they could only rope in 19 players at the auctions, as against more than 20 players roped in by every team. However, having said that, one cannot rule out the fact that they have managed to grab some of the biggest names in the business. The likes of Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Mitch Starc are all set to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season.
It will be interesting to see how the team of such big names is led by the captain of the franchise. They had Gautam Gambhir until the last season to lead them firmly in the competition. With Gambhir gone, they will need some calm head to take them through.
Coming to the fixtures, the Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first game of the season on April 8 at their home venue in Kolkata. They will be hosting the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In their next game, they will taking on the returning Chennai Super Kings in their first away match of the season. In the league stages of the 2018 edition of the IPL, KKR will play only two day games.
Their first day game will be against the Kings XI Punjab in Kolkata, and the second day game will be against the Mumbai Indians in Mumbai. The last league game for the KKR camp will be against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in an away fixture scheduled to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
