IPL 2018: Krishnappa Gowtham credits his mother for all the success in his career
Gowtham has been the most consistent player for his team this season.
Krishnappa Gowtham has been one of the success stories of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the auction for a whopping amount of Rs 6.2 Crore and the youngster hasn’t disappointed a bit. He has played all the matches so far in the tournament and has emerged as one of the best players in the team. While it has been a praiseworthy performance from him, Gowtham has credited all the success in his career to his mother.
He has done all the difficult jobs for the Royals this year by bowling in the powerplay and then coming down the order to bat when runs are needed quickly. He has done everything perfectly by picking the big wickets of the likes of Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum up front. Also, the lad from Karnataka has played a couple of cameos with the bat which has won them the matches miraculously. On Friday as well, his two sixes in the penultimate over released the pressure in the last over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
I am here because of my mother
Krishnappa Gowtham, in an interview to Hindustan Times, recalled the way his mother used to send him to cricket coaching classes without telling his father. “She was the main reason why I started playing cricket. My dad did not know that I was part of the school team and my mother used to send me for cricket coaching classes without my dad’s knowledge,” he said.
He was all praise for his father as well who is a Kabaddi player himself as he never restricted from doing what he liked. “Kabaddi is a tough game. It is physical and mental. The physical aspect is more important. He (Krishnappa) pushed me to go out there and do what I like. He has never stopped me from doing what I wanted,” Gowtham added.
The Royals are still alive in the tournament but they need to win all their remaining matches and Gowtham is the man they will be banking on to perform the same way he has been doing so far.
