Kolkata Knight Riders did not play to their strengths in the last couple two matches but came back strong with all their players firing against the Delhi Daredevils. A collective batting effort led by Nitish Rana and Andre Russell’s charge between 14th and 18th overs pushed the KKR’s total to 200/9. Rishabh Pant and Glenn Maxwell’s counterattack threatened the home team despite three early wickets. However, another collapse followed for DD who ended up with only 129 on the board.
Nitish Rana the last year’s star batsman for the Mumbai Indians, scored his maiden fifty for KKR. The left-hander hit four sixes and five fours during his 35-ball 59. He shared a 61-run stand in just 22 balls with Andre Russell, who hit six sixes during his 12-ball 41-run innings. Rana turned out to be the most valuable player of the game as his match performances were valued at 70.5 lakhs as per the CricTracker’s player value algorithm. Russell’s all-round performances in the match were valued at 69.5 lakhs.
Vijay Shankar turned out to be the liable player of the game as he contributed two runs to DD’s total and two dot balls in the one over he bowled. Shubman Gill, who batted at an unusual batting position, returned with a value of 3.5 lakhs as he scored only six runs. Glenn Maxwell turned out to be the visiting team’s MVP with his 47-run knock and also took two catches on the field. His match performances were valued at 62.5 lakhs which is equivalent to his average match salary for this season.
Rana’s match value of 70.5 lakhs is nearly 2.9 times his average match salary. Trent Boult, who bowled the first maiden over of the season, valued twice his average match salary. Tom Curran (1.82 times), Rahul Tewatia (1.66 times) and Andre Russell (1.39 times) are the only other players to have value more than their average match salary for this season. Shreyas Iyer, retained for 7 crores by the Delhi Daredevils valued 0.05 times his average match salary for his performances in the game.
