The defending champions Mumbai Indians finally opened their winning account with a big 46-run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The home side found themselves in tatters with Umesh Yadav bagging two wickets on the first two deliveries of the game. Evin Lewis (65) lead a counter-attack along with his skipper Rohit Sharma. The MI captain made a 52-ball 94 to push his team’s total to 213/6. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 92 was the only reasonable contribution for RCB in their chase as they ended up with 167/8.

1 – For the first time in the T20 history, both the captains scored 90 and more in the same game. Rohit scored 94 while batting first and Kohli scored an unbeaten 92 in the chase.
2 – Mumbai Indians’ innings was only the 2nd instance of a team losing two wickets on the first two balls of an innings in the IPL. CSK lost their first two wickets on the first two balls of their game against KXIP in 2011.
5 – Mumbai Indians’ win in this game is their first win in five IPL matches at the Wankhede. This was also the 5th consecutive win in the IPL for MI against RCB.
5 – Surya Kumar Yadav became the 5th player to be dismissed via bowled on the first ball of an IPL game. The last of the previous four players was Unmukt Chand in the first match of the 2013 IPL season.
51 – Jasprit Bumrah became the 5th bowler to take 50 wickets in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. This game was his 51st match in the IPL.
92* – Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 92 is the highest individual score for a captain in an unsuccessful IPL chase. Murali Vijay’s 89 for KXIP in 2016 against RCB was the previous highest. Kohli’s 92 is the 2nd highest unbeaten innings in an unsuccessful IPL chase behind Naman Ojha’s 94* against CSK in 2010.
94 – Rohit Sharma’s 94 is his highest score in the T20 format at the Wankhede. This was also his 4th fifty against RCB in the seven innings at this venue.
179 – Number of sixes Rohit Sharma hit in the IPL so far. His tally is second highest for any player in the IPL behind Chris Gayle’s 269 sixes. Rohit hit the 200th six of the tournament having hit the first six.
5018 – Virat Kohli completed 5000 runs in the Twenty20 format for the RCB. He became the first player to score 5000 runs for a single team in the T20 format. Kohli also became the leading run-getter in the IPL when he reached 32 by surpassing Suresh Raina’s tally of 4558 runs.
