IPL 2018: Match 2, Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils – Statistical Highlights

Kings XI Punjab made a perfect start under their new captain Ravichandran Ashwin with a comfortable 5-wicket win against Delhi Daredevils. Gautam Gambhir’s 42-ball 55 at the top and middle order’s contributions helped Delhi to finish with 166/7 on the board. KL Rahul’s record 14-ball fifty knocked out the visiting side in the powerplay itself. Despite the fall of wickets in the middle overs, Karun Nair’s 33-ball fifty guided KXIP to chase down the total with seven balls to spare.

2.5 – KL Rahul completed his fifty by 2.5 overs of the KXIP innings. He is the first player to score a fifty in the IPL by the completion of the 4th over. David Warner’s fifty against KKR last year came by 4.1 overs of SRH’s innings which is previous earliest in the IPL.
The 2.5 overs are also the 2nd fewest (known) needed for a player to complete fifty in the Twenty20 format. Imran Nazir completed his fifty by 2.4 overs of his team in the 2004/05 Pakistan domestic T20 tournament. Nazir, who was making his T20 debut in that game, also reached fifty in 14 balls.
14 – KL Rahul scored the fastest fifty of the IPL history with his 14-ball fifty. This is also the 2nd fastest in the T20 format by an Indian after Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty in the 2007 WT20.
16 – Gautam Gambhir dismissed run out on 16 occasions in the IPL so far. These are the most number of times a player dismissed via run out in the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan got run out on 14 occasions in the league.
17y 11d – At the age of 17 years and 11 days, Kings XI Punjab‘s Mujeeb ur Rahman (Mujeeb Zadran) became the youngest player to feature in an IPL game. Sarfaraz Khan made his IPL debut for RCB in the 2015 season at the age of 17 years and 177 days.
36 – Number of fifty-plus scores for Gautam Gambhir in the IPL so far. These are the joint most fifty-plus scores for any player in the IPL. He levelled with David Warner who also scored 36 scores of 50 and more in the league.
111 – Ravichandran Ashwin captained any team for the first time in his Twenty20 career. He featured in 111 games before making his captaincy debut in the IPL. He is the first player to feature in over 100 games before making his captaincy debut in the IPL.
726 – Runs Gautam Gambhir scored against KXIP in the IPL so far. His tally against the KXIP is the 2nd highest for any player after Chris Gayle’s 797 runs in the league.
