IPL 2018, Match 29, RCB vs KKR - Kolkata Knight Riders Player Ratings

In spite of some splendid batting from RCB skipper Virat Kohli, the Kolkata Knight Riders went ahead and secured an impressive six-wicket victory, something that puts them well in contention for the playoffs. Dinesh Karthik, the captain of the Knight Riders went ahead and put the hosts into bat first after he called the coin-toss correctly. Prior to the beginning of the match, the hosts were dealt with somewhat of a severe blow when AB de Villiers pulled out following a viral fever infection of sorts.

However, despite this, Kohli remained upbeat. In fact, the manner in which he batted was quite amazing, to say the least. he played the ball to different parts of the Chinnaswamy as well as batted right through the innings, something he had done on several occasions. In spite of that, the KKR spin trio of Narine, Chawla, and Kuldeep kept the scoring rate low as the hosts could muster just the 175 on a decent batting track.

The weakness of the bowling came back to haunt the Challengers when all their bowlers were smashed to different parts of the ground. Especially, Umesh Yadav was expensive conceding in excess of 10 runs per over. However, Chris Lynn proved to be the batting star of sorts for the Knights as he smashed the bowlers all around the park whilst remaining unbeaten in his quest of helping his side up the IPL table.

Sunil Narine – 6/10

The 30-year old had an odd day with the ball as he failed to pick wickets on a track that did offer a hint of turn initially. In addition to this, the West Indian cricketer also conceded in excess of 9 runs per over, something that many aren’t accustomed to. However, he made up for these shortcomings with an explosive inning of 27 up the order.

Chris Lynn – 8.5/10

The man of the match for the Knights, so to speak, Chris Lynn was simply phenomenal with the bat. He smashed an unbeaten 62 and guided his side to victory in grand fashion.

Robin Uthappa – 5/10

The Karnataka-based batsman did not have much to offer in both the field and with the bat. While he did field as per the best of his abilities, he was hauled out rather cheaply to Murugan Ashwin.

Nitish Rana – 4/10

The KKR boy-wonder of sorts had a quiet game as Dinesh Karthik had little need to throw the ball to him. While batting, he retired to the haven of the dressing room after a solid 15.

Dinesh Karthik – 6/10

The skipper did the one thing most captains are apprehensive about – the coin toss, something he has had great fortune in. The 32-year old guided his side to victory, thus keeping their playoffs place intact.

Shubman Gill – 4/10

The youngster had little to do with both bat and ball. Apart from the catch that he claimed to dismiss Quinton de Kock, he also struck a boundary in the zenith of the innings to complete a comfortable win for the Knights.

Andre Russell – 7/10

On his 30th birthday, Russell began the match well enough as he picked three important wickets in spite of conceding several runs. However, he was beaten by the pace of Mohammad Siraj and was caught by Quinton de Kock while batting.

Piyush Chawla – 6/10

A strong performance with the ball in spite of not having to come out to bat. Having opened the innings with the new ball, Chawla was instrumental in keeping the scoring rate under wraps.

Shivam Mavi – 6/10

A good comeback for the 19-year old, especially given the fact that he was whacked around the park by the Delhi Daredevils and 29 runs conceded in one over. He snapped up a catch on the boundary to dismiss the dangerous Mandeep Singh.

Mitchell Johnson – 3.5/10

Perhaps one of the weakest performances by the left-arm pacer. He conceded almost 13 runs per over following which Dinesh Karthik decided to use his spinners in the remainder of the match.

Kuldeep Yadav – 7.5/10

Picked up just the one wicket, but managed to keep the scoring rate down. Bowled his four overs and conceded just the 20 odd runs while picking up the wicket of Quinton de Kock.
