19-yeard old Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and his ferocious innings against Kolkata Knight Riders helped Mumbai Indians enter the top 4 position for the first time in the points table of the tournament. The left-handed batsman was in the mood from the moment he arrived after the wicket of Surya Kumar Yadav.
Skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t look at his fluent best during his stay on the crease but his partner Kishan started dominating the KKR bowlers from the word go. It was chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav who faced the wrath of Kishan’s attacking 21-ball 62 runs as Mumbai Indians posted a mammoth total after being asked to bat first.
Kishan joined skipper Rohit Sharma after the fall of openers who provided the side a decent start. Kishan smashed the 2nd ball of his innings for a massive six after being beaten on the very first delivery. He then smashed 3 fours in the next over bowled by Piyush Chawla.

However, it was Kuldeep Yadav’s 3rd over which saw Kishan going all-gun blazing as he smashed him for huge sixes on the leg side. The 3rd consecutive six brought his 50. The 4th six which came on the last ball of the over was nothing but special as Kishan using his wrists deposited the ball for a six, much like the famous MS Dhoni helicopter shot.
Doing the commentary was former Australia captain Michael Clarke who couldn’t stop himself from praising the left-handed batter. He added that that was ‘Left-handed MS Dhoni’ hitting that helicopter shot over the rope. Clarke said, “Look at that, a bit of MS Dhoni there, left-handed MS Dhoni.” Interestingly, both Dhoni and Kishan hail from Jharkhand.
Dhoni’s tips helpful: Ishan Kishan
During the post-match presentation, the 19-year old batsman didn’t miss an opportunity to thank MS Dhoni for giving him some valuable tips which helped him. However, he revealed that he did practice for the helicopter shot and it came off well in the match.
