There are quite a few players in the world who smash the cricket ball as if it was a football. MS Dhoni belongs to that rare breed. For someone who’s known to have strong arms, his reputation as a power hitter keeps exceeding limits every time he smashes a six. MSD’s aggregate this year in IPL is an amazing 286 runs from just 8 games that too at an astounding average of 71.50. He has been making contributions in almost every game. He has scored three fifties already in the first half of the tournament and still looks raring to go.
He has been providing some splendid finishing whether it is his team batting first or while chasing. MSD has been a valuable presence at the lower order. He again stepped up against Delhi with a fantastic 51 runs from just 22 balls, an innings with five sixes and two boundaries.
Amongst the five sixes, he hit yesterday, the one he slammed off Avesh Khan on the last ball of the penultimate over was 108m long. It was the second longest six of the tournament this year. The highest six was hit by AB De Villiers against CSK which was 111 metres long.
Avesh Khan had bowled a quiet over so far as he had conceded just 5 runs from the first five balls. However, he failed to execute his yorker as it turned out to be a full toss and got the treatment it deserved. MS Dhoni had no second thoughts in smashing it for a six over deep square leg.
He has already scored 20 sixes in this year’s IPL. He stands fifth amongst the batsmen with most sixes in the IPL overall with 176. Chris Gayle is a distant first in the list with a tally of 288 which seems unassailable at the moment. Both veterans have been displaying their vintage form in full flow so far.
