IPL 2018: MS Dhoni to resort to lighter bats in the tournament
MS Dhoni has been the captain of the franchise ever since the opening season
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been of the iconic players of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. He has played a number of match-winning knocks and has garnered a massive fan-base in Chennai. Meanwhile, he has also been selective in terms of selection of bats, like many other batsmen. The willows, with which he has slammed several bowling attacks, goes through an immense level of polishing.
Meanwhile, the CSK captain has ordered a new set of bats ahead of their opening game against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, he was sent heavier bats, which didn’t please Dhoni. It has also been learnt that his choices of bats in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are different from the one he uses for international matches.
“He prefers more curve”- MS Dhoni
Vikram Thakur, the export manager of Spartan Sports spoke about the kind of bats Dhoni prefer. “These were the second lot of bats delivered to him as the first lot was a bit heavy. The curve and the round toe he wanted was missing in first set of bats. For IPL games and the T20 format, he prefers more curve. He uses different bats for international games,” Thakur was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
He also said that Dhoni ordered a new set of bats specifying the changes. “He sent a message to Kunal Sharma (Managing Director, Spartan Sports) four or five days ago, saying he needed five more bats with a lighter wood and that particular shape,” he added.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently leading the franchise in the eleventh edition of the tournament. Chennai hasn’t had an overwhelming period over the past couple of seasons owing to match winning scandals. They will be looking to make amends and re-stamp their authority in the league.
