IPL 2018: MS Dhoni sues Amrapali group for not paying his dues

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has carved a reputation as an iconic cricketer for himself for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played for the franchise for eight straight seasons ever since the inception of the tournament. However, following CSKs two-year suspension, he played a couple of seasons for the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS).

Nevertheless, he is back to playing for CSK and is currently captaining them in the eleventh edition of the T20 league. Apart from plying his trade on the field, Dhoni has also been the face of many brands. He was also the brand ambassador of the Amrapali group, a real estate company, for six to seven years and they are, reportedly, yet to pay the CSK skipper his dues of INR 150 crores.

Resultantly, the former Indian skipper has sued the company for not paying him the amount. The company is said to have been caught in a severe financial crisis owing to which they have left several housing projects incomplete. Arun Pandey, the Managing Director (MD) of Rhiti Sports, who also manages Dhoni, updated about their course of action.

“They haven’t given us money for branding and marketing activities,” Pandey was quoted as saying by The Economic Times in a recent interaction with the media. The veteran cricketer stepped down as the brand ambassador of the organization after being trolled for being associated with the company. Apart from the commercial tussles, Dhoni also hasn’t had a delightful outing for CSK.

The Chennai franchise recently returned to the MA Chidambaram Stadium after a gap of a couple of seasons. However, the Cauvery Water Dispute (CWD) has turned up the heat in the city because of which their home games have been shifted to Pune. Meanwhile, the Chennai cricket fraternity and the supporters are highly disappointed by the recent incidents which have panned out in the city.
