IPL 2018: MS Dhoni walks back into the Pune dressing room for the last time with Ziva
MS Dhoni has been an integral member of the Super Kings.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a gap of two years. The team didn’t disappoint their fans as they have qualified for the playoffs of the tournament having won nine out of their 14 matches. Meanwhile, they also had to face their own set of challenges. The franchise could play only one match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
To their dismay, the Cauvery Water Dispute (CWD) turned out to be a massive roadblock as political parties in the city demanded CSK’s home matches to be shifted out of the city. They also threatened to halt the game at the venue in case there were attempts to stage the games. Thereafter, the BCCI announced the Maharashtra Cricket (MCA) Stadium in Pune will be the new home ground for CSK.
Dhoni’s masterful campaign
They played their first match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the venue and comprehensively won the competition. The Yellow Army played their last match at the venue against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and ended the league stages on a high. MS Dhoni has been phenomenal touch for them having scored 446 runs at a stupendous average of 89.20. He has also led the side with authority.
He had previously been a recipient to a fair amount of criticism, but instead of getting bogged down, the veteran has made a strong comeback. He has captained Chennai ever since the first season and has taken his team to the playoffs on every occasion. CSK will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
They will also be aiming for their third title. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni, the CSK skipper, gets emotional as he leaves the city. He took to Instagram and posted a heartfelt message for the supporters.
