IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians have a one-sided 16-5 lead over Kolkata Knight Riders
In terms of statistics, the results have not matched the hype as MI have a 16-5 lead over KKR
They have historically been known to be powerful rivals – first as the teams, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly represented – who made an iconic opening pair for India and also as teams that represented Shah Rukh Khan’s team and home. They won the title alternatively between 2012 and 2015. In 2017, one knocked out the other in the knock-out stages to go on and win the third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. And they are here again to renew their rivalry at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the 11th edition of the tournament in on Sunday, May 6.
Yes, we are talking about Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The former have won the title thrice as against the latter’s two but Rohit Sharma’s men have struggled to defend their title although a dominant victory against Kings XI Punjab the other night catapulted them to the fifth position. KKR, on the other hand, registered a much-needed win over the formidable Chennai Super Kings at home to go to the third position and would like to continue with the momentum in the quest for a top-four finish.
This is their first match of the tournament which has started almost a month ago. MI and KKR have played times in the IPL with winning.
In terms of statistics, however, the results have not matched the hype as MI have a 16-5 lead over KKR which showed how much they have dominated the opponents over the years. MI led 10-2 till the 2013 edition after which KKR pulled a few back. But MI at the moment have an undefeated run of 6 games against KKR since 2015.
