IPL 2018: Mustafizur Rahman reveals what he was doing on the auction day
The Bangladeshi cricketer also spoke about his brother who has played a crucial role in his career.
Mustafizur Rahman will feature for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will commence on April 7. He was picked by the franchise after shelling a decent amount of Rs 2.2 Crore in the mega-auction earlier this year. The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad before and has won the tournament back in 2016. However, he has revealed that he didn’t watch the auction and he only got to know about the news of MI picking him from his coach.
Mustafizur broke into the international scene in 2015 and became the sensation right away courtesy the variations he possessed up his sleeves. He was almost unplayable during the early stage of his career as the batsmen failed to pick him. Though he lost his touch soon and his career was also marred by the injuries. He is fit again and raring to hit the straps for his new franchise this year. It will be interesting to see the way he will fare in the cash-rich tournament this year.
I was very excited
Mustafizur Rahman, in his interview to the official website of Mumbai Indians, revealed that he was not able to watch the auction as he was playing the match. “I did not watch the auction because I had a game that day. The coach that eventually told me that I had been picked by MI. Obviously, I was very excited that I had been picked by a team like MI,” he said.
The Bangladeshi cricketer has come so far at the highest level only because of his brother who has played a huge role in his career.
When asked about his brother he said, “As I said, I wasn’t very good at studies. But when I wanted to play, he was very supportive. He used to take me to play. He used to be like, “Keep your books here, let’s go play” or he would be like, “There is a game at this time, do come”. Even today, if he finds a video of someone bowling well, he sends it to me and gives me counsel. He always tries to advise me on how to get better and improve as a cricketer,” he added.
