IPL 2018: Parthiv Patel is hopeful that RCB can still make it to the playoffs

After losing the Saturday’s match to the Chennai Super Kings, the chances RCB has for qualifying to the playoffs are even slimmer. The team is lagging behind in number 6 position right now, with a run rate in negative. They are still 4 points behind the fourth placed KXIP, which means they not only have to win all their remaining games but also have to depend on other teams’ performances to qualify.

But Parthiv Patel, who is also the highest scorer of the CSK match with 53 runs, is still hopeful about it. He had his captain’s back while talking to the media and speaks from experience that turnovers from the bottom of the pit to the top is not an uncommon thing in IPL. RCB can do that too, and they have the firepower to do it, Parthiv believes.

“Virat has been excellent captain and there is no doubt about it,” Parthiv says in defence of his captain, who has been taking a lot of heat over RCB’s poor performance this season. I have been a part of a lot of IPL and I have seen three-four turnarounds in those 10 years and I do not see any reason as to why we can turn it around. We have the players in the dressing room and the support staff, who makes sure that we are in the right frame of mind,” said Parthiv as quoted by Hindustan Times.

So far, RCB has been suffering from a weak bowling attack. But on Saturday, their batting crumbled under the spin assault of CSK. Parthiv agrees with the popular idea that the wickets of Kohli and AB de Villiers always make a difference to the side’s batting, even though they have other players to put up a good total.

“It does make a difference when two world-class batsmen get out in two overs. Having said that we had the quality in our side, where we could have got to 150-160 on that wicket. But, yes, when Virat and AB get out, it becomes difficult to score.”
