Cricket fans want to see a tough competition among the franchises. If two teams are knocked out of the playoffs race at the halfway stage itself, the tournament becomes less competitive. The Indian Premier League becomes more interesting when all the teams remain in the hunt for the playoffs for the major part of the season.
A change at the top brought about a change in fortunes for the Delhi Daredevils. Shreyas Iyer and co had a great night against KKR as they demolished them by 55 runs. The new captain scored 93 runs off 40 balls to help his side to a massive total. But the captain couldn’t have done it all by himself.
Prithvi Shaw, the former U19 captain opened the innings and set the tone for the others to take over. He scored 62 off 44 deliveries and became the joint youngest to score a half-century in the IPL. The highlight of his innings was the helicopter shot that he played off Mitchell Johnson that went for six.
Mature innings
The 18-year old played some impressive shots to show as to why he is such a highly rated batsman. Opening the innings, Shaw started quite slowly but picked up the pace and hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. The attempted helicopter shot came in the ninth over when Johnson bowled a length ball onto the stumps that were elegantly flicked over mid-wicket.

The target of 220 proved way too much for the Knight Riders as the stuttered right from the start. The big guns were back in the hut inside the first six overs itself and there was too much left to do for the middle order. Shubham Gill and Andre Russell built up a good partnership but it was all too late. This win moved Delhi to the 7th spot in the points table.
