Having a leg-spinner in the lineup has become the order of the day in T20 cricket. All the major international, as well as domestic T20 league teams, love to attack with the leggies. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 has also seen the leg spinners do quite well in tough conditions. They’ve picked up wickets at crucial junctures to put their team in commanding positions.
The likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ish Sodhi have all troubled the opposition but Rashid Khan has been a standout performer for his team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Barring two off-games the leggie has dominated the batsmen and dictated terms in the middle overs. Batsmen have failed to pick him off the hand and thus they leave it for a bit too late. Rashid has been in red-hot form this season and has broken the record for most wickets taken by an overseas leg-spinner in an IPL season.
Impact player
After an impressive performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2, Rashid took his wickets tally to 21. The previous holder of this record was Australian legend Shane Warne, who took 19 wickets for Rajasthan Royals in 2008, the inaugural edition of the IPL.
Rashid is a great asset for any T20 side as he can bowl, field well and chip in with some crucial runs in the end as well. He played a handy knock of 34 runs from 10 balls and effected a runout along with two catches to go with his impressive bowling against KKR to be the Player of the Match. SRH will be banking on Rashid to come good once again in the final match against the Chennai Super Kings.
The Orange army has suffered three defeats against the Super Kings in the season thus far. Skipper Kane Williamson will be hoping that they turn things around in the match that matters the most. The summit clash is set to take place on 27 May at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
