IPL 2018: Ravi Ashwin reveals his plans as KXIP skipper for the upcoming season
He was also looking forward to bowling leg-spin in the IPL.
India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin was appointment the skipper of Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The decision came as a surprise to many as they had the stars like Yuvraj Singh and Aaron Finch for the job. Though they kept faith on the spinner and have chosen him as the best candidate at the helm. However, being the skipper Ashwin has revealed his plans and approach during the course of the tournament.
Ashwin will lead any IPL team for the first time in his career having played for Chennai Super Kings and RisingPune Supergiant only as a player. The biggest advantage for him at the position would be his experience of playing under MS Dhoni for India and CSK for a long time. He would be keen to prove himself as the leader of the pack this year even as he will be looking to revive his white-ball future.
No set plan
Ravi Ashwin, while speaking to Star Sports, cleared that he doesn’t have any set plan to lead the side but assured of developing an environment for each player to express themselves. “There is no set plan to say that I will go like this. I have seen a lot of captains in my career and will try to take positives from them and try to upstage them. I will try to provide an environment where they can express themselves,” he said.
Ashwin also mentioned that he has been working over bowling leg-spin for the last couple of years and now he will be trying those deliveries in the IPL as well. “I have done changes over the years, and now I am bowling leg -spin for the last couple of years. The whole idea has come good, and it came good in Vijay Hazare. I am looking forward to taking it to the IPL as well,” the offie concluded.
