IPL 2018: RCB reckons AB de Villiers’ catch as the best of the season
De Villiers' catch was even praised by Virat Kohli.
The curtains have finally come down on the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and won the tournament for the third time. The franchise also equalled the Mumbai Indians (MI) as the team with the most number of title wins (three) in the history of the cash-rich event.
Following CSK’s victory, the award ceremony was conducted where the respective winners were crowned for their pieces of brilliance in the outfield. Trent Boult won the award for the Catch of the Tournament. In the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in Bangalore, he grasped a superlative catch in the square leg boundary to dismiss Virat Kohli.
Harshal Patel dished out a full toss and Kohli flicked the ball without much fuss. However, Boult jumped, stuck his right hand out and pulled off a stunner. He also ensured that he doesn’t touch the boundary ropes. The RCB skipper was in utter disbelief following what panned out. Quite expectantly, the catch went into contention along with other brilliant takes.
‘Superman’ de Villiers’ sheer piece of brilliance
There was another catch, which could have won the award- the superlative catch by AB de Villiers in the match between RCB and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M Chinnaswamy itself. Alex Hales tried to smash Moeen Ali over the mid-wicket boundary and nearly succeeded. The South African cricketer had to pull off a herculean task in order to catch hold of the leather.
He leapt high in the air and made the catch look an effortless one. Following the brilliant take, he was hailed for the superman-like catch and even Kohli couldn’t stop himself from praising the masterful effort. Albeit Boult took away the prize for the best catch, RCB believes that de Villiers catch was the best of the lot. The official Twitter handle posted about the same.
