Fielding is one of the most important aspects of T20 cricket. Good fielding can save 10-15 runs for the team which is a lot in the shorter version of the game. These 10-15 runs prove to be the difference in the end as fielding lifts the confidence of the team and works wonders for the bowlers. Catches can swing the momentum in teams favour and sometimes good ground fielding is all you need to uplift the team.

The IPL has already witnessed some great catches. Trent Boult, Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes are few of the contenders for the catch of the season. On Sunday, the Rajasthan Royals took on the Mumbai Indians in a crucial encounter. It was a potential knockout game and Rajasthan Royals prevailed in the end after a Butler special. Sanju Samson pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Hardik Pandya after some poor show by RR on the field.

The Flying Samson

The Mumbai Indians started off in great fashion after Rahane decided to bowl. The opening stand between Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav was 87 runs after which the collapse began. Hardik Pandya scored a quickfire 36 to take MI to a respectable total. Both Lewis and Hardik were lucky to score runs as the fields failed to grab their catches.

It took a moment of brilliance from Samson to send Hardik into the dugout. Sanju Samson ran at full speed and put in a one-handed dive to grab the catch. He showed incredible poise and balance to hang on to it and complete the dismissal.

Samson’s catch was surely one of the best for the season. It is amazing how the youngsters come up and perform strongly at the big stage. The growth of these youngsters is good for Indian cricket. Players have started playing fearless cricket right from ball one and it seems that the pressure doesn’t get to them at all. The development of such players is because of the robust Indian domestic system.
