Prior to the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), MS Dhoni wasn’t in the greatest of nicks, which earned him a lot of flack form the public. However, he has rediscovered himself in the tournament and has been in stupendous form. Most importantly, he has answered his critics appropriately with some jaw-dropping knocks under his belt.
The Jharkhand-born batsman has already notched three half-centuries in the league and has been one of the primary reasons behind Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dominating run in the event. The franchise played their last game against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, which was comfortably won by the home team.
“He is hitting the ball incredibly”- Shane Watson on MS Dhoni
The 36-year old veteran raced away to 51 runs off 24 balls, which included five whacks into the stands. The former Indian skipper was severe on Trent Boult launched and took him to the cleaners in the death overs. Dhoni smacked three boundaries and a couple of sixes off the New Zealand fast-bowler, which propelled CSK’s score way above the 200-run mark.
Shane Watson, who received the Player of the Match award, was struck with awe by the exhibition on show and he showered MSD with accolades. “Trent Boult is a world class bowler and MS hit him really well. He is hitting the ball incredibly, as well as he has ever hit,” Watson said in the post match-conference.
Watson himself has been in tremendous touch and he scored 78 runs off 40 balls, which included seven sixes. The Queenslander also sounded positive after the match-winning knock guided his team to the top of the league table. “I wanted to help the team in the previous games but to be able to play this innings against DD is a good confidence builder,” Watson added.
