IPL 2018: Side strain might sideline Jofra Archer from few games
Jofra Archer suffered the injury prior to the Pakistan Super League
The eleventh edition of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently taking place with eight teams fighting it out. Recently, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have also played their opening game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against whom they were thrashed by nine wickets. Meanwhile, along with the defeat they have been hit by another bad news as Jofra Archer might miss few games.
The Barbados-born fast bowler was bagged by the Rajasthan Royals for a whopping INR 7.20 crore in the auction in Bangalore. However, he hasn’t yet recovered from the side strain which might keep him out for a chunk of the tournament. On the eve of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he triggered a side strain owing to which he was ruled out of the tournament.
He was slated to take part in the Sarfraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators and missed the entire tournament. He was expected to get fit for the mega event in India, but he couldn’t, which comes as a major blow for the Royals. The franchise has already lost Steve Smith, the Australian skipper, following the infamous match-fixing scandal.
A horrendous outing for Rajasthan
In today’s encounter, the Royals couldn’t get their act right at any moment of the game. Sanju Samson batted decently for them and scored 49 runs. Barring the wicket-keeper batsman, no other Royal’s batsman managed to make an impact in the game. Wickets kept falling at an alarming rate which derailed the innings for the Royals.
During Sunrisers run chase, Jaydev Unadkat gave the Royals their first breakthrough. However, Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan thrashed the bowlers to all corners of the ground and traced down the runs with sheer authority. The Royals bowling was devoid of any steam and looked lacklustre throughout. With the defeat, the Royals are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.
