IPL 2018: Stephen Fleming believes that one bad game doesn't demand changes in team

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been one of the most formidable teams in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They started the tournament with some thumping victories and have been siting pretty among the top two teams in the points table for a while now. Their batsmen have gone on a rampage and have guided them home.

However, they have slumped to a couple of defeats against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last three matches. Yesterday, despite posting a competitive score on board against the KKR, their bowlers stuttered and gave away easy runs to let the hosts take the game.

To add to their agony, Ravindra Jadeja, who has been termed one among the best fielders in international cricket, dropped Sunil Narine a couple of times after which they could hardly recover. Nevertheless, Stephen Fleming doesn’t feel the need to bring in changes, despite the off day.

A little slap on the face

“We got to be careful that we don’t get too carried away after one bad game where the bowling looked a little bit off. It’s too easy to start chopping and changing after one bad game. Look those guys bowled us to a win in the last game. You just got be careful and not be too knee-jerk and make sure that you run the sequence long enough to see true form come through,” Fleming was said after the match.

In a tournament like the IPL, almost every team goes through a phase where they stumble. Fleming accepted the loss as a blow and pledged to make a strong comeback.

“Look, that can happen in a long tournament… It’s not a great performance by any means but we have got hours rather than days to rectify. A loss just is a little slap on the face and hopefully it has not affected in day and half’s time and there’s still going to be hardwork,” he added.
