IPL 2018: Stephen Fleming not concerned about poor show from the bowlers
The CSK bowlers conceded in excess of 200 runs in the Chinnaswamy.
After an emphatic win last night against the Royal Challengers in their own backyard, CSK coach Stephen Fleming was not at all worried after the poor show put up the bowlers. He was a relieved man seeing his skipper coming to the party and smacking bowlers all around the park to register the fifth win for the franchise to take them to the top of the table.
In the six games played so far, the bowling unit hasn’t done justice to their ability as they have gone for far too many at most of the occasions. Barring the match against Rajasthan, the men in yellow have conceded 165 runs as the least in any other match, while opposition crossed 200-run mark three times.
Was caught up by an ABD show
The head coach reckons the effort was way much better than what it looked like they were caught off guard by an AB De Villiers show at the Chinnaswamy. “I don’t think we bowled too badly but AB de took the game away from us. So, just as good as Dhoni is at the death, AB through that top and middle was superb. He counted what we had today and I thought we hung in there pretty well,” the former Kiwi skipper said.
For him, the result of the game had more importance given the team has been successful in chasing whatever the opposition has managed to put up on the board. “You could bowl a lot worse than what we did today. We asked some questions and the answers were emphatic from de Villiers and de Kock so they had no problems with that. I would like to bowl out teams for 130-140 but if we’re chasing down the scores that they get, it suggests that we’re doing ok, ” the coach was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Rayudu set the platform for the late flourish
The coach was not blown away by Dhoni’s heroics in the previous game and reckons the role of Ambati Rayudu was far much greater as he paved the way for the win with his magnificent knock under pressure. It was his highest score in the format that set the platform for the late flourish and helped the team reach close to the target.
“Dhoni’s going to get a lot of the headlines but the innings from Rayudu was outstanding as well. He’s been the in-form player for us in all conditions and has followed on from the Hyderabad game with another instrumental knock. We’ve got across the line and it’s a becoming a habit which is great, “Fleming concluded.
