IPL 2018: Twitter ridicules RCB after Chris Gayle's extravaganza
Chris Gayle recorded the maiden century of IPL 2018 against the Sunrisers.
Chris Gayle has been in supreme form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was not included in the first games against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, he was drafted into the eleven against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and he announced himself with a swashbuckling knock, which laid the foundation for Punjab.
The hulking Jamaican replicated his form in the next game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as well. The left-handed batsman didn’t blaze away, played calculative strokes and unfolded mayhem in the opposition dugout. He notched a well-compiled half-century in 39 balls and a useful opening stand along with KL Rahul who has been in superlative touch as well.
Gayle takes SRH apart
Thereafter, the veteran saw the ball like a football and accelerated to the extent, which took Punjab to a massive score on the board. Rashid Khan, the Afghan leg-spinner, was expected to the trump card for Kane Williamson’s men, however, he was neutralized as Chris Gayle laid into him and whacked him into the stands on six occasions with utter disdain.
Thereafter, he notched his sixth century in his IPL career and his 21st century overall in T20 cricket across the globe. The target set by Punjab, eventually, turned out to be a far cry for the Sunrisers. Despite Williamson’s and Manish Pandey’s gutsy half-century, Punjab brushed the visitor’s aside by 15 runs. It was also their maiden victory over SRH in five attempts at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
Before playing for Punjab, Gayle plied his trade for the RCB since 2011. He scored five centuries for the franchise and was an integral member of the team. However, the last two seasons in 2016 and 2017 didn’t happen to be memorable for the Windies batsman. Subsequently, he wasn’t retained by any franchise in the auction. Moreover, he went unsold a couple of times, before Punjab bagged him at his base price.
Following the opening century of the tournament, the fans have brutally trolled RCB for not retaining Gayle. Virat Kohli’s men have currently won one out of their four games and are currently languishing at the bottom of the table along with the Delhi Daredevils.
