Virat Kohli took over the Test captaincy from MS Dhoni in 2014 during India’s tour of Australia. Last year, Dhoni decided to pass the baton of leadership in the limited-overs formats to Virat Kohli and his first assignment was when England toured India in January. He has also been a skipper of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League.

Yesterday, he played his 100th game as a skipper of a T20 team, which is pretty substantial as far as experience is concerned. However, major loopholes can still be seen in his leadership techniques, which were also evident during RCBs last game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, which the Challengers lost after scoring 205 runs.

The poor strategies by Virat Kohli

Corey Anderson, who has bowled occasionally thus far in the T20 format has been entrusted to shoulder the responsibility in the second half of CSKs run chase when they required 116 runs off 54 balls, during which the likes of MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu had the license to go hell for leather. He bowled the 12th over and conceded 12 runs. He was thereafter given the ball in the 16th, 18th and 20th over.

By then, Virat Kohli had already exhausted the overs of his premier pacer in the form of Umesh Yadav who churned out a frugal spell in the context of the game. The move turned out to be a disaster and the Kiwi all-rounder conceded 58 runs off 22 balls at a dismal economy of 15.81. He had 16 runs to defend in the final over and he faltered as Bravo and Dhoni finished the game with a couple of balls to spare.

Following RCBs loss, Twitter wasn’t satisfied with how Kohli marshalled his troops. Subsequently, they bashed the Indian and the RCB skipper for his lacklustre standards of captaincy.
